Etude et développement de séparateurs pour une nouvelle architecture de batteries Li-ion à charge rapide.

Abstract : In the field of fast charge Li-ion battery development i.e. charge lower than 5 minutes, commercial separators have been characterized using electrochemistry and physico-chemical techniques to correlate the porous structures with the electrochemical performances. The titan oxide Li4Ti5O12 for the negative electrode and the spinel LiMn2O4 for the positive were chosen as electrodes.
Poly(vinylidene fluoride) and poly(vinylidene fluoride)-co-poly(hexafluoropropene) membranes, obtained by phase inversion process,
have been studied in order to increase the battery capacities with regard of commercial separators. The experiment design has been employed and the formation processes have been clarified from a thermodynamical approach of the polymer/solvent/no-solvent ternary systems. With these new membranes, 20% increase of the battery capacities was obtained. Lastly, the separator limitations, in fast charge, have been studied and identified with a Li-ion battery simulation code.
