Leucotriènes et pathologies cardiovasculaires :diabète et hypertension artérielle

Abstract : Leukotrienes are bioactive metabolites of arachidonic acid formed through the 5-lipoxygenase pathway. With regard to their potent proinflammatory, vasoactive, chemotactic and growth properties, they have been involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. In this work, we have shown that cysteinyl leukotrienes are involved in the contractile response to angiotensin II and noradrenaline in aorta from various rat models of diabetes and hypertension. Moreover, we confirmed 5-lipoxygenase location in the vessel. We observed an activation of the 5-lipoxygenase pathway that was confirmed in type 1 diabetic patients. Our data suggest the potential interest of pharmacological blocade of the 5-lipoxygenase pathway in cardiovascular diseases.
