La formation du concept de soi en Education Physique et Sportive : Les différents antécédents et le rôle des visions de soi.

Abstract : This thesis investigated the construction of the Self-Concept (SC) in situations of teaching Physical Education (PE). The objective of this dissertation was to highlight various antecedents of SC but also to consider the role played by SC in its own formation and evolution. Indeed, Self-Verification Theory (Swann, 1990) insists on the active role of SC in maintenance and research of stability across time. In a series of 6 studies, we consider various models of the formation of SC developed in school domain (i.e., I/E model, causal ordering achievement model, Big-Fish-Little-Pond Effect, choices of targets of comparison) in a physical and "secondary" academic domain, PE. Several modulators of different antecedents relative to these models are also considered (e.g., pupil's sex, level of practice, pupil's self-determined motivation). Lastly, postulates of Self-Verification Theory are questioned from the point of view of pupil's SC influence on (1) perceptions of the significant others (i.e., the teacher), (2) treatment and perception of feedback received, and (3) the use of self-presentational strategies, since the situation threats the stability of this construct.
