ETUDE EXPERIMENTALE DES PHENOMENES INDUITS DANS UN LIQUIDE PAR UNE INJECTION FORTEMENT LOCALISEE D'ENERGIE

Abstract : The experiment shows that any insulating liquid subjected to an increasing tension is crossed by a current which strongly grows with the tension until breakdown. For a insulating liquid, breakdown is a destructive phenomenon which degrades in an irremediable way its dielectric behavior, i.e. this one will not be able to hold the same level of tension any more. This phenomenon is the cause of the majority of the failures of the electric material.
The aim of this study is to propose a plausible physical model to explain the formation of a bubble following an electric micro-discharge in a large field of pressure (pressure lower and largely higher than the critical pressure of the fluid) and for various temperatures.
This study makes it possible to conclude that the bubble reached, for R=Rm a local thermodynamic balance defined by the curve of vapor pressure saturating for P/Pc. This analysis results in proposing an semi-empirical thermodynamic model making it possible to calculate the maximum radius of the bubble whatever the pressure P/ applied to the liquid, from the knowledge only of energy injected and the properties thermodynamics of the liquid.
The analysis of the potential energy of the bubble between the first two cycles shows that, the most probable phenomenon which should be taken into account in the correct calculation of the energy lost between the first two cycles of the bubble, is the matter flow exchanged with the interface which should lead to a loss of mass and thus to a variation of the density of the fluid environment inside the bubble as function of time.
