Abstract : The multi-scale study of karst aquifers achieved during this work is based on hydraulic, hydrochimical and deformation in situ measurements carried out on two experimental sites.
Firstly, investigations were done at the fracture scale and at the fracture group scale (metric scale) on the Coaraze site (Southern French Alps). Secondly, a karst aquifer was studied at the kilometric scale. The selected site is the Fourbanne spring aquifer (Jura foreland, France). This site was monitored in order to study the behaviour of the underground water at the time of its crossing of the unsaturated and saturated zones.
A contrast between the hydrogeochemical signature of permeable discontinuities and that of low-permeability discontinuities was highlighted at the metric scale, as well as the high hydraulic sensitivity of low-permeability discontinuities to the deformation process. The integration of the work completed at the scale of the fracture or the group of fractures in the study of the karst aquifer allows to establish a conceptual model of the transfer of anthropogenic elements through the aquifer. Moreover, it appears that an analysis of the chemical signal of water expelled at karst springs allows to reconstruct the hydraulic relationships between low-permeability volumes and conduit within the saturated zone. Lastly, the mechanisms previously highlighted at several scales enabled us to interpret a post-seismic hydrochemical signal.
