Déflexion électrique d'un jet moléculaire : progrès expérimentaux et théoriques

Abstract : This work has been achieved on a molecular beam deflexion apparatus using a static inhomogeneous electric field. This experimental setup allows us to measure the electric dipole moment and polarizability of atoms and molecules in the gas phase. During my PhD work, we have developed and calibrated a position sensitive detection coupled to a high resolution time of flight mass spectrometer. Experiments on disubstituted benzene molecules have been performed. These measurements led to a better understanding of the deflexion profiles and of the interaction of isolated polar molecules with the electric field. In particular, the importance of symmetry and vibration-rotation couplings has been studied and analyzed in detail.
