Analyse multirésolution du Transfert Radiatif en milieu hétérogène: application de la méthode de Galerkin-ondelettes à l'Equation du Transfert Radiatif

Abstract : Radiative transfer in cloudy atmosphere is essential in climate study. Regarding its non-linear and multiscale aspects, one of the di±culties of radiative transfer is to account for spatial he- terogeneities of cloud microphysic properties (horizontal variability, geometric heterogeneity), from both theoretical and numerical points of view. In order to answer these problems, we use a wavelet multiresolution analysis in a Galerkin method applied to the radiative transfer equation. This method yields the formalization of radiative transfer in heterogeneous medium by differentiating the elementary interaction processes betwen the radiation field and the medium, described by connection coefficients. This rewriting leads us to build a code, designed as an "instrument model", a tool that analyses scale problems in radiative transfer. The results have been validated with Monte Carlo and SHDOM codes. First simulations demonstrate the interest of this approach to quantify additional radiative sources at approximation pixel scale due to scale interactions, and for the original study of 3D radiative effects. This new approach opens up applications in the current studies concerning the limitations of existing codes and inversion procedures (pixel size, vertical homogenity hypothesis, ..), and can give rise to the making of cloud heterogeneity parameterisation.
