Abstract : Nowadays, Senegal is faced with a strong socialization of the coastal zone linked, among others, to the dynamism of dugout-fishing, which has evolved from a traditional activity to an artisanal fishing in less than fifty years. The territorial approach applied to three levels of spatial scale (fishing territories, halieutic poles and coastal territories) brings new informations about: sustainable management of the resources, halieutic territories and societies dynamics, the role of the artisanal fishing in the structuration of coastal territories. Because of the pitfalls of the scientific research in Africa, the methodology uses a participative field approach. The analysis of three workshops areas shows that the craft fishing constitutes a threat for a long term resources exploitation, because of an increasing extraversion of the trading channel. It reveals that the national fishing policy, which is very much influenced by the international policy and cooperation, contributes to this extraversion. Nevertheless, halieutic societies stand apart because of their stronger resistance to the occidentalization of customs and habits which, elsewhere along the coast, stands at the origin of important territorial recompositions. Added to the fact that they are submitted to environmental damages and territorial competitions, coastal territories are the theater of the duality between the endogenous dynamics and the exogenous factors that management policies must entirely take into account. This thought raises the problem of the North-South relationship, as the liberal globalization looks like the continuity of colonial exploitation and proves the need for reviewing the political and scientific approaches in the field of development.
