Etude numérique et expérimentale du frittage à l'échelle du grain

Abstract : This work deals with the experimental and numerical study of sintering processes, at the grain scale. In a first step, 2D Monte Carlo modelling of sintering, based on a non discrete energetic model is presented. It has been applied to different systems with increasing complexities. In parallel, equivalent experiments on real systems have been realised in order to validate the numerical modelling of the sintering of glass. Moreover, a thermodynamical and analytical model has been developed to characterise the stable configurations of a system, depending on the ratio of the solid/solid and solid/gas surface tensions. The comparison of these morphologies with the morphologies obtained using the Monte Carlo model, has shown a change in the kinetic behaviour, as soon as the contact angle between grains reached its equilibrium value. Finally, a tomography study has been performed both on glass and on ceramic materials during the sintering process. For the first time, it was possible to visualised, in three dimensions, morphological evolutions of grains during densification.
