PROPOSITION D'UNE METHODOLOGIE D'ANALYSE DU MOUVEMENT : -- APPLICATION A LA MARCHE DU SUJET HEMIPLEGIQUE --

Abstract : A growing number of motion analysis systems are used in a variety of areas, such as ergonomic, coaching and medical evaluation. However, integrating the numeric results of these systems into the decision-making process remains difficult. The aim of this research was twofold: 1) to propose a methodology which could allow rigorous studies of human movement and which would integrate the numeric results in the decision-making process, and 2) to apply the methodology to stroke gait analysis. The dissertation structured in five chapters describes how these objectives were archived. Chapter one describes the main difficulties to overcome, in terms of both human and material factors, in order to make a real contribution to three-dimensional movement analysis at the decision-making level. In addition, the chapter discuss the principal constraints and finality of human movement analysis. Chapter two proposes a 5-step methodology: 1) the conception of a necessary knowledge base, 2) the identification of qualified indicators, 3) the design of the evaluation protocol, 4) the processing and transformation of data collected, and 5) the definition of presentation modality and information access. The above methodology is then applied to stroke gait with the intention of improving the functional analysis (chapter three). The proposed methodology highlights the drawbacks of common analysis protocols. It also allowed the development of a model of a specific graphic interface for the gait analysis of stroke subjects (chapter four). Chapter five presents an assessment of the research done and underlines the more important evolutions and perspective of this research. Such general methodology for the analysis of human movement, which regrouped all the different steps in an analysis – from the collection of information on the movement to the presentation of results in a form adapted to the user – could be applied in many different areas.
