Modélisation et simulation d'éclairage à base topologique : application aux environnements architecturaux complexes

Abstract : Modeling and visualizing complex architectural environnements still today a difficult problem, because of the large amount of data which a furnished building can represent. The aim of this PhD dissertation is the creation of a complete chain from the geometrical modeling to realistic image synthesis. We propose a topological model allowing to represent large buildings. This structure is a hierarchy of generalized maps provided with multiple partitions. A modeler prototype has been developed around an optimized version of this model and some buildings were designed with this tool. A lot of information (geometry, topology and semantic) can be extracted from our model to optimize algorithms of visualization. We show how to accelerate ray tracing with the help of modeling information and propose a fast global illumination algorithm based on photon mapping.
