Anthropologie phénoménologique des rencontres destinales

Abstract : The thesis gives itself two orientations of research related one to the other

1. - An investigation into the fundamental sociological meaning of the encounter (its role in the constitution of the social bond). The encounter is not only one “natural” fact of the everyday life. It is not either only one fact determined by psychological and sociological conditions. It has also another aspect : it has potentialities of change, upheaval which invite us to consider the encounter with the strong meaning of the term and to think about it in the analysis of the social life. Thus, through the study of "destinal" encounters (love at first sight, religious experiment, aesthetic experiment, fateful encounter, unpleasant and dangerous encounter...), I propose a typology illustrated by references to cultural works (literature, cinema). The interest for existential and fantasmatic dimension of the encounter shows to us that the social bond is a complex compound of logics and uncertainties, determinations and occasions, actions and imagination.
2. - Being given the properly transversal and interdisciplinary nature of the object "encounter", this thesis also invites to a discussion on the epistemology and the methodology of the social sciences, in particular through a critical reflexion on the naturalist reductionnism.
