Entre fragmentation et interconnexion territoriale. La gestion des réseaux de sentiers en espaces protégés rhône-alpins (réserves naturelles de Haute-Savoie, Parc National des Ecrins, réserve naturelle des Gorges de l'Ardèche)

Abstract : Hiking-path networks are intimately related to the rural areas they cross. They are also used by the managers of nature reserves to enhance their acceptance by, and cooperation with, the functional areas within which they have been established. The managerial approach of such networks is currently based on continual consultation with stakeholders and can be considered as a means of mediating in local-area issues. The encouragement of collective action is part of an effort to establish cooperation between local areas. This should enable unilateral, fragmented, area-based approaches to be transformed into global, interconnected, negotiated ones in which local areas develop in conjunction with one another. It thus remains to be seen whether the conflict between reticular and areolar geographical zones can contribute to the development of new managerial and organizational methods for protected areas. This study attempts to introduce a novel approach based on the pairing the notions of network and local area and applying this to environmental management. Hiking-path networks have rarely been studied scientifically, despite offering definite opportunities as regards the interconnection of local areas.
