Hydromécanique du contact entre géomatériaux: expérimentation et modélisation. Application au stockage de déchets nucléaires

Abstract : Confronted with nuclear waste issue, the nations concerned have considered many strategies one of which is the deep repository. The materials expected in situ are quite well know but there is a lack of data concerning the contacts between pre-compacted bentonite blocks within the engineered barrier or between the engineered and the natural barriers. However, such interfaces are critical regarding to the underground water flow and pollutant transport. The thesis deals with experimental and numerical investigations on the hydromechanical behaviour of Argilite/Bentonite and Argilite/Mortar interfaces. Compression and shear hydromechanical tests have been performed using the direct shear box for rock joints, BCR3D, developped at the Laboratory 3S to highlight the important parameters with regards to the evolution of the intrinsic transmissivity. Moreover, the shear tests show the influence of the rock wall roughness and of the initial value of normal stress on the mechanical response of the interface. Some experimental aspects, one of which is the bentonite erosion, have been studied from a numerical point of view to improve our understanding of the hydromechanical behaviour.
