Propriétés de fluorescence de nanocristaux de CdSe individuels

Abstract : We study the fluorescence properties of single CdSe nanocrystals.
We show experimentally that the fluorescence intermittency of
these nanoscale emitters induces non ergodicity and statistical
aging in their fluorescence properties.

We show that defocused microscopy enables the measurement of the
3D orientation of a single nanocrystal. The applicability of this
measurement for tracking the orientation of a single biomolecule
is demonstrated.

We prove that the interaction between a single nanocrystal and a
dielectric surface changes both its radiation pattern and its
excited state radiative lifetime. We take advantage of these
spontaneous emission modifications to measure the bright state
quantum efficiency of single nanocrystals.

We finally demonstrate that a single CdSe nanocrystal under pulsed
excitation is a triggered single photon emitter. We analyze in
detail the performances of this ``photon gun" for potential
applications in quantum information processing.
