Abstract : 1. STUDY OF INDIUM/GOLD BILAYERS BY MEANS OF ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS :

Roughness oscillations and pseudomorphism

Quantum size effects : Vernier effect between :

The oscillating phenomenon n°1 as deduced from theoretical models where the thickness of the thin film is changing continuously : period lF/2 ;
The oscillating phenomenon n°2 due to the atomic layer by atomic layer growth mode of indium.
Verification by experiment of absorption of low energy electrons.

2. Studies of stacking of metallic magnetic or no magnetic thin films : Structural and magnetic properties.

3. Actual researches and first results

* Experiment of spin-dependent transmission of low energy
electrons of through ultra-thin magnetic layers.

In collaboration with the Laboratoire de la Physique de la Matiere Condensee, Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau. H.-J. Drouhin, Y. Lassailly, G. Lampel, A.-J. van der Sluijs.

3.a The aims :

To directly measure the dependence of the transmission coefficient of the electrons versus their spin and their incident energy.

To study the variation of the mean free path of low energy electrons (few eV)

Realization of a electronic spin detector ?

3.b The experimental :

Experiment of transmission : very thin samples;

Low energy electrons : no magnetic field ;

Samples with perpendicular anisotropy.

3.b The results :

First direct observation of the spin dependence of the transmission of low energy electrons through thin magnetic films
