Structure et Dynamique des écosystèmes inondables (forêt marécageuse, mangrove) du bassin du Sinnamary (Guyane Française)

Abstract : The goal of this study is to characterise the progressive transformation of an estuarine mangrove on the one hand, to a mixed formation mangrove -swamp forest on the other hand. This work falls under a broader optic which aims to understand the evolution of this estuarine mangrove and to give a long term prediction of its evolution. The structure of the vegetation of the estuary of Sinnamary (French Guiana) is studied in relation to the ground physicochemical parameters and according to the sedimentary history of the zone. The ecotone Mangrove -Swamp Forest is particularly studied with the search for parameters characterising the gradient of the marine influence. Three types of vegetal formations are describe by their structural parameters (floristic composition, diameter, height, densities) on 5 sites distributed out of 350 km² and representing 26.225 m² inventory. From these measurements, the dynamics of the populations was underlined. The evolution of the densities in time, the annual diametric increase and the distribution of the major species were characterised. The relations between the physicochemical parameters of the ground and the distribution of the species were also specified. Lastly, the evolution of the settlement during last 50 years was studied has through aerial photographs and remote sensing. The study of the structure of the settlement made it possible to characterise the various facies of mangrove observed and to propose empirical models of evolution of the structural parameters (floristic Composition, specific density, basal area). The allometric relations between the height and the diameter of the principal species were also specified. The study of the dynamics of the populations made it possible to account for the specific distribution for the principal species. The analysis of these distributions underlined the strategies of colonisation and occupation of the medium by the various species as well as the effects of the conditions of the medium on the installation of these strategies. Contrary to what is observed in firm ground forest, the diametric analysis of the data of increase showed the absence of periodic growth of the individuals in this medium. The study and the follow-up of the formations by remote sensing (sensus lato) made it possible to assess the phenomena of transformation of the mangrove with a particular precision over the period of study (1996-1998). Lastly, the study of the physicochemical characteristics of the grounds made it possible to highlight the phenomena of evolution of the grounds and to identify the determinism of it. The relations ground-vegetation were specified, bringing new data for these mediums. Knowledge on the structure of the vegetation, on the dynamics of the vegetation, the interrelationships ground-vegetation, as well as the suggested models of evolution of the structural parameters according to times constitutes a solid base for the study of these mediums on a regional scale by techniques of spatial or airborne remote sensing and for the comprehension of the mechanisms of transformation of these mediums.
