Dissymétrie de rayonnement dans les radiosources extragalactiques

Abstract : My research was principally concerned with the origin of the radiation from extragalactic jets. Very different approaches have been used (optical and radio observations, modelisation and theory) because I am convinced that only a global view can bring a sufficiently precise understanding of the physics of these objects. Individually, the different components of radiosources (jets, lobes, VLBI jets, Active Nuclei, ...) are poorly constrained by the observations. Jet asymmetry can be considered as the backbone of my reseach: explaining why a jet radiates while its opposite counterpart is not visible is, to my view, an ultimate objective.

From a synthesis of observations and several theoretical developments, I have build a model explaining jet one-sidedness at large scale. It still remains qualitative but encompasses most properties of radiosources. Contrarily to the often assumed interpretation, I have been able to demonstrate that the asymmetries are mainly intrinsical, due to the significant dependance of jet radiation properties on its interaction with the ambiant local medium.

As a necessary complement, I also tried to understand the properties of jet radiation very close to the central engine, in order to reach in the future a global modelisation consistent at all scales of extragalactic radiosources.
