Préparation de surface du PET avant métallisation: étude et comparaison des procédés laser excimère et plasma hors-équilibre

Abstract : This study aimed at characterizing the surface properties (XPS, contact angle, SEM) of a PET film after excimer laser irradiation at fluences below the ablation threshold, and its adhesion properties (peel test) towards evaporated aluminium. Those surface and adhesion properties were compared to those induced by low pressure low frequency plasma treatment in an He-5% O2 mixture. It appeared that both processes induced polar oxygenated functions grafting, which reinforced chemical adhesion between aluminium and PET. This effect was positive on the global adhesion after plasma treatment. On the contrary, it was related to fragmentation of the polymer surface in the case of laser irradiation, and thus decreased the global adhesion. The laser irradiation conditions which lead to improved adhesion properties, similar to those obtained with plasma treatment, required a few pulses at a sufficient fluence. This improvement was attributed to surface ablation and/or structural modifications.
