Etudes de systèmes atomiques par spectroscopie laser. Tests de physique fondamentale et développement d'un étalon de fréquence optique

Abstract : This document describes a set of laser spectroscopy experiments carried out from 1985 to 2003. We describe measurements of isotope shifts (Gd, Xe), determinations of the Rydberg constant and 1S Lamb shift in hydrogen as well as parity violation in Cs. After a review of atomic, molecular and ionic candidates for an optical clock, we describe a project using atomic silver. In this experiment undertaken at the BNM-INM, Cnam, Paris, the aim is to realise the S.I. second via a Doppler-free two-photon transition at 661.3 nm excited with a sample of laser-cooled atoms. We present the early results obtained using a thermal atomic beam and dye lasers and describe the development of suitable solid-state lasers.
