Service transactionnel souple pour systèmes répartis à objets persistants

Abstract : This report presents the Guide Transaction Service (GTS) which can be used to build reliable applications in the framework of the Guide object-oriented distributed system. The STG is flexible as it permits the use of atomic objects inside and outside transactions. The transaction model extends the nested transaction model in order to provide support for several kinds of intra-transaction parallelism and for parallelism between transactions and non-transactional operations applied to atomic objects. In order to ensure the atomicity of a distributed nested transaction in a faulty environment, the transaction tree is partially represented on all the nodes visited by any of its component transactions. An original protocol was defined which permits the validation of sub-transactions in only one phase. The STG is composed of special classes which constitute the service interface and implement mechanisms for transaction management, concurrency control and recovery. Special classes lie on system level primitives added to the Guide kernel.
