Indexation des données multimedia, utilisation dans le cadre d'un système de recherche d'informations

Abstract : In the context of informations retrieval systems, the indexing process is much too often observed as an external, rigid and static process, giving as an output a list of key-words. Our point of view is completely the opposite. We think that the index of a document is not universal, but depends on each user of the system. We also think that the indexing language must be more expressive. Therefore we developped a double strategy : richness and adaptation of the indexing expressiveness. The richness shows us how to differently index documents, which necessarily as soon as the new needs in information retrieval are taken into account. The adaptation of indexing allows the system to dynamically provide different understandings of the documents. More generally, our point of view is that the nature and the variability of the indexing language, and the associated indexing process are fundametal parameters to the systems. Deep association between indexing and querying is the condition for an actual improvement of the information retrieval systems, and their adaptation to different users et searches.
