Conception, réalisation et expérimentation d'un logiciel d'aide à l'enseignement de la géométrie : Cabri-géomètre

Abstract : Starting from the evidence of restricted computer use in teaching, the aim of this work is to address problems related to introducing computers in mathematic teaching in the case of geometry. Geometry is characterized by the important use of diagrams in conjecturing and problem solving. Knowledge acquisition is then based on the meaning students construct about the notion of geometrical diagram. To describe some steps in the development of this notion we propose and use the notion of form and configuration. We choose to introduce computer in geometry teaching with a direct manipulation microworld. After analyzing the demands of the use of such a microworld in the classrooms, we realized its computer implementation whose main choices are presented here. An experiment allowed us to check initial choices and modalities for the use of Cabri-géomètre. This experiment gives clear evidence of a positive role played by direct manipulation in the learning of the use of diagrams in geometry. By pushing the student to engage himself, direct manipulation forsters a move from a teacher evaluation to a student validation of its own constructions. Two modifications of the didactical system by the software introduction are analysed: - teacher negociating of a new didactical contract, - organizing situations that promote the transfer of knowledge constructed in a computorized environnement to other environnements.
