LE CENOMANO-TURONIEN DE L'ATLANTIQUE NORD (BASSIN DU SENEGAL): ENVIRONNEMENT DE DEPOT ET EVOLUTION DIAGENETIQUE

Abstract : The purpose of present study is to characterise Cenomanian – Turonian organic rich strata in Senegal basin and compare such results to similar basin (Tarfaya basin in Morocco) in order to propose integrated depositional model for North Atlantique setting.
The combination of organic petrography and geochemical methods showed particular depositional conditions in Senegal platform characterised by moderate bioproductivity, poor OM preservation (dysoxic conditions) and high clastic material inputs.

This work also provides precisions about petroleum generation and accumulation in Senegal platform by using 2D modelling approach. The Cenomanian –Turonian reached oil window during late Cretaceous and the migration process only begun during the Eocene. Faults and "rollover" structures most probably constitute the main migration pathways and traps for hydrocarbons, respectively.
