Dynamique temporelle des oscillateurs paramétriques optiques continus : oscillations multimodes, oscillations en rafales et chaos

Abstract : Continuous wave optical parametric oscillators (OPO) are widely accordable sources of coherent light, based on nonlinear interaction which may lead to a great diversity of dynamical regimes. We are interested in their temporal dynamics in an experimental, theoretical and numerical point of view. We characterize oscillations of frequency from 1 up to 300MHz. We show experimentally that they originate from the interaction of several transverse modes. Moreover, those fast oscillations give birth to bursting instabilities when they are coupled to slower ones due to thermal effects. We have observed what is to our knowledge the first experimental observation of deterministic chaos in this system. Finaly, our experimental an theoretical works have improved our understanding of mode selection in OPO.
