Abstract : Employee Timetabling in companies is a very complicated task, because it associates intimately restrictions and preferences arising from the social and family context with professional constraints of the general managers, the human resource managers, the operational managers and supervisors and, of course, the employees themselves. The huge volumes of literature in this area published over the previous decades is the proof of the economic and social interest in the international scientific community. One of the objectives of this thesis is the description of the different timetabling problems and a synthesis of the different methods of solving. The practical objectives of the thesis include the analysis and realisation of timetabling software based on Constraint Programming. This work includes two collaboration projects between the University of Joseph Fourier and Industry: the projects Gymnaste with COSYTEC S.A. and Equitime with EQUITIME S.A. A further project Mosar was implemented for the French Ministry of Justice. Compared to usual methods, these projects used models that took into consideration preferences and constraints at the individual level and to take into account relevant knowledge of the users by allowing them to participate actively in the timetabling process. The thesis also includes several scientific contributions on the theme of multiple levels of time-aggregation models. In France, there are work laws that stipulate daily, weekly, monthly and yearly restrictions. So as to produce legal timetables that meet all these restrictions simultaneously, we propose new models and resolution methods.
