Etude expérimentale des mécanismes d'échanges thermiques dans une conduite contenant un écoulement diphasique d'hélium superfluide

Abstract : This study deals with heat transfer between a pressuried HeII bath and diphasic HeII forced flow. We confirm some previous results revealing an improvement in the heat exchange at high vapor velocity in comparison to what expected. We show that this improvement is caused by a thin liquid film (a few micrometers thick) on the walls. Its thickness is measured by a capacitive sensor. Simultaneously, we detect and characterize a mist of droplets which also appears at high vapor velocity. Thanks to this characterisation, we evaluate the cooling power provided by the droplets when impinging the walls, and compare it to the observed non-linearity of the heat transfer. This approach suggests that the mist is responsible for the generation of the wall film even though we cannot be decisive about it, due to the lack of a complete picture of the drops deposition process.
