Reconstruction 3D d'un objet compact en tomographie

Abstract : We consider the 3D reconstruction of binary images from a few X-ray tomographic data. In nondestructive testing, a first evaluation may determine the presence of a single fault in an homogeneous material. The fault is then considered as a compact homogeneous object. Its reconstruction is underdetermined due to the low number and the limited angles of the projections. One then needs to provide prior information on the region of interest to obtain an accurate solution. A possible approach to regularize the problem is to use the probabilistic modeling of this information in the Bayesian inference framework. We distinguish two classes of methods. The most classical ones model the image as a binary field and then estimate the values of its voxels from the data. The others describe and estimate the object surface from the data. The latter are the most natural in our context since they take advantage of the compacity assumption, and they significantly reduce the number of parameters. We present the advantages and limitations of both strategies, and then study the contour-based models. Selected prior information favors local smoothness of the model. To reconstruct complex surfaces, we choose local parametric models, whose parameters only control specific portions of the surface. We use spline representations, and we especially show the interest of the polyhedral modeling. We elaborate an original reconstruction method which directly estimates the positions of the polyhedron vertices from the data, without a voxel representation of the region of interest. Algorithmic aspects derive from the properties of the model projections. We study the performance of the method and we show its ability to reconstruct complex shapes in a limited time of computation.
