Accélération d'atomes ultrafroids ; mesure de h/M

Abstract : This work describes an
experiment whose purpose is the measurement of the atomic recoil
velocity Vr. The ratio h/M, where h is the Planck
constant and M the atomic mass, and then the fine structure
constant can be deduced from this measurement. The experiment is
made up of three steps. Firstly we select, in a cloud of cold
atoms, a subrecoil velocity class with a Raman transition. Then we
accelerate the atoms with a standing wave in the atomic frame (in
the solid state physics approach, this is known as Bloch
oscillations). Finally, we measure the final atomic velocity with
a new Raman transition. The determination of the initial and final
atomic velocities leads to the determination of the momentum
transfer and so, of the atomic recoil velocity. We present in this
script the first results of this experimental work.
