Variations temporelle et spatiale de la transition subduction-collision. Tectonique de la transition Zagros-Makran (Iran) et modélisation analogique

Abstract : Lateral and temporal evolution from subduction to collision : insights from Iranian tectonics (Zagros-Makran) and physical modeling. Lateral and spatial transitions between subduction and collision are key zones in a geodynamic point of view. This work deals with the role and behavior of these zones via analogue modeling and active tectonics of a case study. The analogue modeling of a time-transition from subduction to collision showed that every time a continental subduction phase occurs, the duration of whom being controlled by the deformation of the slab at depth. More the slab can deform, shorter is the continental subduction. In case of a lateral transition between subduction and collision, the upper plate deformation depends also on its strength, and can be driven along weak zones. Active tectonics indicate that the Zagros-Makran transition (SE Iran) zone is currently deforming over a wide domain, through two fault systems, oriented N 160° and N 0°. The stress state is transpressional and shows two stages. 1-Mio-Pliocene: thrusting with possible partitioning with folding. 2-Plio-Quaternary: purely faulting deformation, with a NE-trending s1 main horizontal stress, homogeneous throughout the study area. Geomorphic offset features analysis and dating (10Be dating and archeological and paleoclimate correlations), allows the fault velocities calculation and their integration to obtain the total motion through the zone, of 12±2 mm/a, N 10° directed. The distribution of the deformation can be attributed to a flexure of the Makran slab under the Zagros. It shows, as models do, that the superficial deformation is strongly influenced by deep processes. Deformation in Iran and in the models moreover follows a localization by weakness zones inherited from the geological history.
