Désordre et plasticité dans les milieux divisés : mousses et matériaux granulaires

Abstract : The strong coupling between static structure and mechanical response in divided media makes difficult their rheological description. The first part of the manuscript addresses this question, through a simulation of the quasistatic shearing of bidimensional foams. Under low deformation, bubble rearrangements relax homogeneously the structure. Under high deformation they are localized in a thin shear band. This study leads us to propose a mechanism for the shear band instability. The second part is dedicated to the micro-plasticity in granular materials. We detect, by multiple light scattering, grains displacement induced by controlled low amplitude vibrations. The probed dynamics exhibits strong memory effects and is independent of the pile density. An interpretation in term of a slow evolution of forces network accounts for our observations.
