L'exhumation de la Zone Axiale des Pyrénées orientales : Une approche thermo-chronologique multi-méthodes du rôle des failles.

Abstract : The structure of the Eastern Pyrenees Axial Zone is the result of a complex thermal and tectonic evolution over a period of more than 300 Ma, synthetised in the first chapter. For a better understanding of this evolution in each of the different massifs of this Axial Zone, a multi-method thermochronological approach (U-Pb, 40Ar/39Ar, fission track and (U-Th)/He) was implemented in order to date and quantify the thermal and mechanic processes that contribute to their exhumation (Chapter 2). The Têt fault that has essentially an alpine activity, is the subject of third chapter through the reconstruction of the Canigou and Mont-Louis massifs' T-t paths, at the fault's foot-wall and the hanging-wall. A general re-heating of the Canigou's gneissic basement during the Mid to Late Cretaceous, an exhumation of the Mont-Louis massif coeval with Eocene Pyrenean thrustings and an important surrection of the Canigou during the extensive Oligo-Miocene phase are the main results. The fourth chapter presents thermochronological data on the Saint-Laurent and Albères massifs that also attest to a differential exhumation process during the Alpine orogeny. The laser probe 40Ar/39Ar dating of E-W to NW-SE mylonitic faults that traverse the totality of the Pyrenean range is the subject of the firth chapter. An important Mid-Cretaceous episode of static recristallisation is localised on these mylonitic zones inherited from the Hercynian evolution. A pervasive ductile deformation, with a south-vergent component and at moderate temperature (< 400° C), that we connect to Pyrenean compressive event, was dated at 58 Ma on the Merens fault and 38 Ma on the Boulou-Le Perthus fault, attesting to the duration of the compressive regime. In conclusion, all these data are resituated within the general frame of the geodynamic evolution of the Pyrenees. The use of several thermochronometers in the establishment of T-t paths enabled us to test the validity of dates and to discuss the possible causes of noted incoherences in the recording of the main thermal and tectonic events.
