Etude de propriétés optiques liées à la transmission de cristaux photoniques bidimensionnels

Abstract : This work concerns the study of bidimensional photonic crystals and the implementation of the corresponding theoretical tools. Its specificity rests on two aspects. Firstly, we have used a general program to study multilayers, possibly rough or leaky of holes, using a method of coupled modes with the use of the formalism of the S matrix. From this program, we obtain relevant parameters such as transmission and reflection coefficients of the overall structure, from which one can deduce losses in energy. Furthermore, we have developped the calculation of near field and bulk field maps of the studied system, with the possibility to select some specific diffraction orders and polarizations. By studying the poles of the S matrix, we also study the eigen modes of the system. Secondly, the beginning of this work coincides with the publication in 1998 of results concerning the experimental study of bidimensionnal photonic crystals made of a thin metallic layer perforated of subwavelength holes distributed according to a bidimensionnal grating and deposited on a dielectric substrate. We present a theorical analysis of this experiment. We show that, within the framework of these experiments, the notion of eigen modes associated to a given system takes on a crucial interest. More particularly, we raise the importance of the analysis of resonant Wood's anomalies in the interpretation of these experiments.
