Réalisation d'états intriqués dans une collision atomique assistée par une cavité

Abstract : Generally, the wave-function of two
isolated particles after a mutual interaction cannot be expressed
as a product of the particles' individual states. However,
maximal entanglement is produced in an atomic collision
only under exceptional conditions. These conditions are met in our
set-up, where the dipole-dipole interaction between 'two level'
Rydberg atoms can be stimulated by a non-resonant superconducting
cavity. By exploiting this effect, we have realised strongly
entangled states in a collision with an impact parameter in the
millimeter range. The collision mixing angle can be modified by
changing the atoms-cavity detuning. We have thus observed
reversible and coherent energy exchange (Rabi oscillation) between
two atoms. By properly choosing the collision parameters' values,
we have, in particular, created and tested an EPR pair of atoms.
Due to the relative insensitivity to the cavity quality factor,
the fidelity of this entanglement generation method is compatible
with Bell's inequalities violation experiments and with the
coherent manipulation of a larger number of atoms. Furthermore, we
present a new procedure for manufacturing microwave cavities. With
these cavities, it should in particular become possible to study
the entanglement of the fields confined in two separate
