Etude du champ dynamique dans une cellule d'échangeur à vortex : aspect expérimental et numerique

Abstract : We consider the isothermal flow through a cylindrical flat chamber, a model of some particular exchanger, for which LVD measurements and numerical simulation has been performed. Turbulence model is a k-Ε one. Experimental measurements are compared to results of numerical computations with good agreement. Both show the existence of a secondary flow generated by hydrodynamical instabilities due to streamline curvature. With inlet laminar conditions, the main vortex flow appears to be restricted by this secondary flow the structure of which is supposed to oscillate beetween two and for vortices near peripherical wall. Shear thickening properties of CMC solutions tend to reduce this oscillations. With inlet turbulent conditions, a powerfull vortex flow appears. Its intensity reaches a limiting value for Reynolds numbers over 15000, the secondary flow extending all along the chamber radius, remaining Reynolds number dependant. This last observation leads to an expected significant increase of the fluid mixing. Study of thickness variation (h) leads to the definition of a new parameter based on Dean number to enclosed streamline curvature effect. Results issued from simulation appear to be in acceptable agreement with experimental data and lead to a better understanding of secondary flow dynamic. A first study of numericals streamlines show a strong dependence of them upon z position. Distribution of time residence probability show only one evolution for all flows conditions.
