Etude de la détermination de la direction d'un électron de recul dans le cadre du projet de spectroscopie des neutrinos solaires Hellaz

Abstract : The aim of the Hellaz project is to measure separatly the fluxes of the two main solar neutrino sources, pp and beryllium, using neutrino - electron elastic scattering in a time projection chamber (TPC) filled with helium at 20 bars. Knowing both the energy and the direction of the recoiling electron, the neutrino energy can be retrieved through the kinematics of the radiation. This electron creates a track in the TPC (5 cm long for 100 keV), ionizing the gaz along this rack. The ionization electrons which are created drift under an electric field and are individually detected in X, Y and Z directions with ultrafast MICROMEGAS chambers.
In this thesis, a simulation software is developed in order to show the feasability of the project. This pipeline starts with the simulation of the ionization cloud generated by a low energy recoiling electron, using GEANT software. The detection efficiency versus the electron energy and the interaction position within the TPC is then calculed.
We show then that the solar neutrino spectrum can be measured with a 10% accuracy, including the introduction of a realistic radioactive background (10000 compton per day) coming from gamma rays emitted by residual U-Th in the detector's wall. This show the feasability of the project, if however one can detect single electron.
