Usage et mésusage du cannabis chez les candidats à l’engagement au régiment du service militaire adapté de Nouvelle Calédonie

Abstract : Introduction: New Caledonia is a fertile ground for the cultivation of cannabis and allows a large supply of a trivialized substance whose consumption is accepted by the population. However, the RSMA-NC recruits a population at risk of consuming and presenting a misuse of cannabis. Objective: describe the proportion of cannabis users and the methods of consumption of volunteers at the RSMA-NC engagement. Method: multicentre descriptive observational study using anonymous questionnaires offered to people presenting for the initial screening medical examination as a VDSMA candidate on the Nouméa, Koné, and Koumac sites between 01/01/19 and 31/06/19. Results: 346 were included in the study. The rate of initiation into cannabis use was 85.5%. Current consumption is concerned 24.3% of candidates, of which 8.1% consumed daily. Current consumption was 27.9% for men compared to 17.5% for women. Consumption according to the province of residence is 20.7% in the northern province, 27.4% in the southern province, 28.6% in the Loyalty Islands province, and 22.2% for other origins.10.7% of the candidates declared that at least one of the two parents was a consumer and that 90.2% of their close circle of acquaintances (friends, family, cousins) consumed. The modal score on the CAST test was "11-12" for candidates reporting consumption more than twice a month. 61.8% of the population did not know the DECLIC device, 25.8% knew it without having had recourse to it, and 12.4 had already consulted. Polyconsumption of tobacco and alcohol concerns 7.5% of candidates for RSMA-NC, 9.2% is that of tobacco and cannabis, 3.46% of alcohol and cannabis, and 1.40% of the 3 substances. Conclusion: the initiation and consumption of candidates for commitment to RSMA-NC are high, with a significant risk of misuse or dependence, increased in the event of polyconsumption.
