Le minyanka parlé dans le cercle de Bla : une description phonologique et morphosyntaxique

Abstract : Minyanka is a Senufo language which has several dialects. The present dissertation aims to describe the Minyanka dialect spoken in Penesso, a village of the Bla region, in southeastern Mali. This dialect differs from other Minyanka dialects already described (those spoken in Karangasso, Yorosso and Mpessoba) by the three following features: (i) at the phonological level, the Penesso dialect is characterized by the absence of labio-velar consonants (kp, gb, ŋm) and by the presence of fricative laryngeals (h, ɦ); (ii) in terms of tonology, unlike the Karangasso, Yorosso and Mpessoba dialects, which are said to have three tones (high, mid and low), the Penesso dialect has only two tones (high, low) plus downstep; (iii) from a morphological point of view, the Penesso dialect has 8 noun class suffixes and only 6 agreement classes, while other Minyanka dialects have 8 noun class suffixes and 8 agreement classes. In terms of verbal morphology, the Penesso dialect displays some features which are generally found in other Senufo languages: (i) aspect and tense are expressed by predicative markers which immediately follow the subject; (ii) most verbs contrast two forms: perfective (used for bounded actions) vs. imperfective (used for non-bounded actions). At the syntactic level Minyanka, like other Senufo languages, makes frequent use of serial verb constructions to express events which are generally encoded by a single verb in non-serializing languages. Lability is a widespread phenomenon in Minyanka affecting almost half of its verbs. Finally, like other Senufo languages, Minyanka contrasts two coordinators (à ‘and.DS’ vs. má ‘and.SS’) encoding respectively switch-subject vs. same-subject in coordinated clauses.
