Les lisières urbaines : lieux de reliance urbaine et sensible

Abstract : Among urban wastelands, urban edges are created at the interface of urban and natural environments. They constitute an increasingly important network as the metropolis expands, dilating the former urban fronts and piercing the agricultural and forest environments. Do they play an urban, ecological, social, or even sensitive role within urbanised territories? In the framework of a research-project “Urban Landscapes and Urban Edges” carried out in the Greater Geneva area, we investigated their urban issues, characteristics and dynamics of formation, roles and experiences at the metropolitan, territorial and local levels. Our hypothesis is that these constitute frames and places in their own right. They create third places and links within the metropolis, with pathways, atmospheres, landscapes, practices and experiences. They could allow us to think over territorial strategies that reconcile urban and natural potentialities.
