Description of a safe programming microprocessing unit for railway signalling
G. Chaumontet1, M. Nicolaidis2, A. Guyot1, V. Castro-Alves1, B. Courtois1, Y. Gruere1, D. Trousson1

The authors present the architecture of a micro-controller (MAPS) used to drive the `on ground' function of a railway network. This microcontroller must replace safety discrete components actually used in critical system. To take up this challenge, MAPS profits from the integration on the same chip of both a self-checking circuit and two fail-safe interfaces. It also guarantees a number of failures per hour much lower than that achieved in the existing systems
