| Le chapitre 1 situe historiquement la notion de stratigraphie archéologique, de la fouille sans stratigraphie, à la stratigraphie verticale basée sur les coupes de terrain, puis à l'état de l'art actuel fondé sur l'axiomatisation proposée par Edward Harris en 1979. Le chapitre 2 est une relecture des concepts de cette dernière approche, préalable à leur formalisation. Celle-ci, développée dans le chapitre 3 en recourant à des outils mathématiques simples, permet de proposer un algorithme d'obtention du diagramme stratigraphique, intégrant la notion d'incertitude. Ce traitement s'insère dans la notion plus large de " système d'information stratigraphique " (chapitre 4). Enfin le chapitre 5 évoque, d'un point de vue théorique et pratique, le statut de l'information stratigraphique. Le volume 2 présente les outils informatiques issus de ce travail : le module de création de diagrammes stratigraphiques Le Stratifiant, et l'exemple de base de données Stratibase. |

| The chapter 1 discusses the history of the concept of archaeological stratigraphy, until the present notions founded on the axiomatization introduced by Edward Harris in 1979. Chapter 2 reexamines these notions, in order to formalize them. Chapter 3 suggests a formalisation using simple mathematical tools, and proposes an algorithm in order to get automatically a stratigraphic diagram (Harris Matrix), including the concept of uncertainty. This process forms part of the broader concept of "stratigraphic information system" (chapter 4). Finally chapter 5 evokes, from a theoretical and practical point of view, the statute of stratigraphic information. Volume 2 presents the computer tools resulting from this work: the module of creation of stratigraphic diagrams (Le Stratifiant), with one exemple of stratigraphic database (Stratibase). |
